  even though powertex is a fabic hardener

you can still show motion and movement

 

using wire and foil for the body and styrofoam for the head

I cover the form with powertex and stoneart

the dress , a crochet doily , really finishes it off

using a plaster head, wooden dowel and base

building up the body with foil and masking tape

and 18 gauge wire for the wings

and for the dress and wings I experimented with a variety of natural items

Power cotton and handmade paper for the wings 

gauze, doily and cotton t-shirt for the dresses

one of the European plaster heads  offered from powertex  is " Jonas"

he is so serene looking and I decided to make him as an angel

using ivory powertex , cotton tshirt , cheesecloth and wire for the wings

body in motion

I really love the simplicity of this sculpture

this basic dance pose is highlighted by using stone art

the texture shows off the form

image transfer with powerprint

working with powerprint is so quick and easy
not only can you use it with powertex and stoneart
it also works beautifully on leather, glass, metal and wood!!
the possibilities are endless
you can even transfer onto a terracotta pot

for my project

supplies needed

a canvas, corrugated cardboard, powercotton,

powertex in blue , ivory and bronze

stoneart and powerprint

 I mixed blue and ivory powertex to create the sky

working on the top two thirds I painted the canvas and then added stoneart to create some texture

paying more attention to the edges

I used bronze powertex for the "earth" and adding an extra thick layer in the centre

letting it sit for 5 minutes to create a "skin" I added stoneart  and gently rubbed it in

this made some really cool cracks

to add to the ground texture I painted some cardboard and powercotton

 

 

powerprint is so easy to use

simple apply a thin coat to the area and add your toner based photocopy face down

allow to completely dry ( use can use a dryer to speed the process)



once dried just add water and rub

powertex angel

inspired by lucy anglin , she names her art work alphabetically,

my first angel  "agnes"

who has always been my muse for all my creations

using a one inch dowel , wooden base and plaster head

i created the body with foil, masking tape and gauze

armature wire for the wings base, covered with masking tape

paper decoration for the wings and a t-shirt for the dress

green powertex and copper colortricx metallic with easy varnish

For this project Nancy use a mask found at a local art supply store which came with a handle

and the base is a wooden block.  Using bronze powertex and stoneart , Nancy added several

layers to create this wonderful texture

Stoneart and canvas project

Now that spring is in the the air I was inspired to create this canvas

Starting with blue and ivory Powertex  and some Stoneart  working in sections

I painted the background and then rubbed in the Stoneart several times to create some texture

Next, some corrugated cardboard's and Powercotton to create the ground ,

painted with bronze Powertex

A bit of cheesecloth for the cloud, toothpicks for the stems and decorative paper for the flowers

For the second day of our powertex retreat we worked with stoneart

(above finished project by Emma Ivemey)

 

Using Styrofoam and plaster Buddha as our base and inspiration

along with whatever else we wanted to experiment with

cardboard, puzzle pieces and wooden skewers 

Working with ivory powertex  and stoneart we worked in small areas, gently pressing stoneart into the powertex and then rubbing to create a stone effect , layer after layer until we created the desired texture.  Adding elements to give depth and added interest.



Once the stone effect is achieved we used Bister in a spray bottle and a damp sponge

Easy bowl project

This project is great as an introduction to the powertex products

It's as simple as wraping a bowl with saran wrap , soaking doily in clear powertex,

forming it over the bowl and letting it harden.
